2021 Fall Fashion and Accessory Trends

I’m always sad to pack away shorts and sandals at the end of summer but browsing new fall trends does help take the sting out of saying good-bye to my favorite season. From sweater vests to textured handbags to chunky platforms, these are some of my favorite new styles for fall 2021.

Fall 2021 Fashion Trends

Textured and quilted handbags are a popular accessory trend and include everything from knitted bags to fluffy Sherpa totes. This Zara handbag nails the quilted look and also incorporates another popular trend – the chain handle. Another plus is that it features a subtle texture and neutral color so this will stay chic for a long time.

The Après Ski trend is an easy one for Canadians to adopt! I take out my cable knit sweaters in October and probably don’t put them away until April. :( This one from L.L. Bean is right on trend but also one you can reach for each winter when you want to be warm and cozy!

After more than a year of sweats and casual wear where comfort reigned supreme it looks like the fashion world is ready to glam it up a bit! The runways were filled with clothes that shimmered from sequins and reflective materials. I’m not sure about you but a sequined top or jacket is probably not getting a lot of wear just now but jewelry with some subtle sparkle? Yes please! This gold star charm necklace with cubic zirconias has some shine and gives off a pretty warm glow.

It looks like the popularity of platforms will carry over through the fall. It was a hard pass for me on platform mules and slides (hello rolled ankle!) but for boots and shoes you can sign me up! These ones from Nordstorm are such a beautiful color and that heel height actually looks quite comfortable.

Sweater vests are trending in a big way and almost every round-up of 2021 fall fashion includes them. They come in an endless variety of colors and price points so they’re an easy trend to embrace. The one pictured is from Aritzia and looks so soft and comfy with a neutral color that would pair well with just about everything.

Faux leather has come a long way - it's a great alternative to the real thing and it’s one that won’t break the bank. Leather pants seems to be particularly popular but personally I would opt for a pencil skirt instead. I think this skirt by Mango would be universally flattering and can easily be dressed up with heeled boots or dressed down in sneakers.

Which autumn trend are you trying?
